Data recovery from Maxtor hard drives
Common problems
Disk is identified in BIOS tables as:
- Maxtor Calypso
- Maxtor Ares
- Maxtor Romulus
- Maxtor N40P
- Maxtor Athena
- Maxtor Rigel
This normally means what portions of firmware inside the drive are damaged (it can happen for several reasons) or drive cannot read them. User data is still there, but it will not be accessible on any computer without specialized software and knowledge.
"Musical" Calypso
This is the sound recorded from a Maxtor 6L300S0 (Calypso family) with a seized bearing. Motor is unable to spin up. Multiple startups of the older Calypso drives in this condition degrade the heads more and more.
